Performance Spotlight
Villain Edit: Easter

Produced By: Chevy Lace

Audio Mixed By: Vague Static
Songs Performed:
Settle Down – Kimbra
Assisted By: Fox Rinne
Artist Statement:
With a focus on storytelling, Vague Static aims to paint a picture. Through interactive audience participation and with the help of friends, this performance highlights the western-colonial pressure put on women and femme-presenting individuals to marry into an obsessive hetero-normative system. By performing an over the top portrayal of desire, to the point of a stereotypical display of madness, the act is structured around misogynistic audio clips of years past and brings into question wherein lies the cause and effect of certain actions.
BAX: Between & Beyond Gender Drag Showcase

Produced By: Theydy Bedbug (Kelindah Bee Schuster) via Brooklyn Art Exchange (BAX)
Photos By: @pixeljournalism
Song Performed:
End of the Earth – Marina
Artist Statement:
As the earth continues to cry out for change, it is up to us to listen to the pleas and to advocate for immediate action. This piece speaks through the voice of a polluted “Mother Earth” embodiment, calling out to her creations and creatures that actively harm her. This entity sings that she will love them through the hurt they inflict – to the effect of causing harm by her own hand, and self-polluting to the point of detriment of them all. The performance is meant to elicit a thorough reflection through empathy, going beyond self-fulfillment or gratification.
Lil Park Drag Show: Gender Uphoria Grand Finale

Produced By: Lil Park Drag Show
Photos By: Jealyn McFadden (@thefairyboi) & Dante Leach (@GrandMasterFlashStudios)
Audio Mixed By: Vague Static
Songs Performed:
I Am Changing – Dreamgirls
All is Soft Inside – Aurora
You Changed My Life – Austra
Artist Statement:
Self-expression is a powerful force, a vulnerability shared with the outside world. Each individual is an ever growing and changing manifestation, and that includes the exploration of gender. Especially as trans and non-binary individuals are increasingly attacked and used as a scapegoat, the self-reflective journey is similarly a radical one. In such it’s imperative to stand strong in one’s sense of self, particularly as it is a means to show those working through similar journeys that there is a beautiful light at the end of the hardships that come with such explorations. We are not alone, we’ve always existed, and we are allowed to explore, discover, and play. This piece brings in parts of myself from childhood, those parts worried about being seen as incomplete and scared of how I felt incapable of controlling how I was changing. Taking control of my own narrative and reconnecting with my inner sense of wonder has allowed me to reclaim my power and share with others to help do the same.

Artist Statement:
While this may not be the first drag show Vague Static has ever produced, Sweetly Sinister takes the cake in being their first solo-production! Born from a desire to celebrate the vast talents of their friends and chosen family, as well as the holiday that inspires and uplifts those considered “other”. Vague aims for their productions to be a stage for the incredible individuals who may otherwise be skipped over when other producers are casting: a expansive range of body types, BIPOC, and trans + queer folk!

Artist Statement:
How have western-colonial societies particularly played its part in shunning diverse ways of communicating: both with the elements of nature, as well as fellow humans?
Fated Corpus is centered around the disparate foundational cores of nature’s brutality as opposed to humanity’s brutality, the way that humanity’s brutality has become indoctrinated into the cultural psyche, and the self centeredness that’s imposed when trying to understand the brutality of nature.
This interactive experience mixes elements of drag performance art, ritual movement, and game-play practices, to reflect on humanity’s relationship to nature, the planet, and things they don’t understand – specifically things we humans cannot/have difficulties communicating with.
Overall, it’s an expression on humanity’s active choices, and refusal to relearn the languages of nature; when nature extends open invitation into healing and community, when does humanity accept the strength of the act?
An ever evolving project, Fated Corpus’ first rendition was displayed as a part of the 2024 ChaShaMa Art Gala in Manhattan.
The Black Parade: A Drag Tribute Show

Produced By: Sour Somethings
Photos By: Angel Rivera (@afiveonemale)
Songs Performed: by My Chemical Romance
House of Wolves
Final Last Words
Artist Statement:
This tribute show was a back-to-back runthrough of the iconic album The Black Parade, by the band My Chemical Romance. It centered an all-black cast, an unfortunately uncommon practice compared to the frequent occurrence of all-white performance casts that are still prevalent on many stages.
The two numbers performed by Vague Static that night centered on recent political events and a reflection of late-stage capitalism. The performance vessel that is Vague Static is an outlet often used to express frustrations with the current state of the world, and a call to others who feel similarly impacted. Starting with House of Wolves, it was a commentary on white privilege and the need to use white guilt for a radical good over virtual signalling to people of color. Ending the night, Final Last Words was an outcry to the community to not lose hope. Together we make an impact and are similarly important on each individual level, we help each other grow and keep each other safe.
